Solent Area Lady Hayward is berthed in East Cowes Marina on the Isle of Wight. This recently upgraded Dean and Reddyhoff marina is ideally located for operations in the Solent and the adjacent Central South Coast of England. There are excellent shore side facilities at East Cowes, including showers and a brand new Brewers Fayre family restaurant, called The Lifeboat, on site. Students can expect to visit three or four other Solent ports and anchorages during their course, but Home Base is always available in case of difficulties. The Solent itself is an ideal location for marine training. It hosts a major commercial port, Southampton; a major Naval and Historic Port, Portsmouth; and numerous small and varied harbours and anchorages. As a result, students can expect to meet most types of craft and situations during their course including large, deep draught vessels; high speed ferries; commercial craft; hovercraft and plenty of sail and power pleasure vessels. The partially sheltered nature of Solent waters ensures an all year round training ground with a variety of sea states and tidal conditions depending on season and weather. Travelling to Prestige Power and Directions Students are normally expected to find their own way to East Cowes Marina, via the various cross Solent ferry services. However, it may be possible to meet students in West Cowes from the Red Jet passenger-only ferry or in exceptional circumstances, to collect students from an arranged location on the mainland. Generally, students will need to travel to Southampton or Portsmouth to catch one of the Isle of Wight ferries. We highly recommend that you travel as foot passengers, but should you decide to bring your car, you will need to book in advance.
